Summer Break Boogie

The soundtrack of life continues…

I need some playful grooves to help me finish my final grades. One last push, one last long repetitive (but not mundane) day of creative evaluation. T. Rex was the perfect choice for the soundtrack.  Love him or hate him, you have to admit Marc Bolan & T. Rex could lay down the glam rock boogie like no one else. Included in this post are 7 of my favorite T. Rex songs. Just what’s needed to help me boogie through this work and then boogie on into my productive summer.

5/22/14: Stone Temple Pilots

stone-temple-pilots

On most days, I like my sky above me and my ground below me. Too bad these days ain’t like most days. These days, my life has been relentlesssssss. I’ll just leave it at that because I have no time to elaborate. Good news is on the horizon. Soon enough summer will be here, which means an extra hour of the Fuzz Factory every Thursday. There is no downside to that fact.

This week, I did play Stone Temple Pilots on the Compare/Contrast Feature. Mixed in were solo songs, etc. However, I did intentionally only play ballads from STP. WHY? Because they do them so damn well. Stone Temple Pilots (in spite of Scott Weiland’s personal issues) have continued to improve their craft. They began their career as a Pearl Jam/Alice In Chains hybrid and evolved into a much more original sound highlighted by extremely well crafted glam rock songs and intensely personal rock ballads. Perhaps you did not know this and that’s another reason why I’m here.

Don’t forget to tune in every Thursday from 8-10 PM (EST) on SCAD-Atlanta Radio (www.scadatlantaradio.org).

5/15/14: Full On Fuzz Rock

super fuzz pedal

To procrastinate or not to procrastinate? That is the question. Yes and no, that is the answer. At least it seems like that. Do I really need to elaborate? Working under pressure happens whether or not were are prepared. Therefore we all need our go-to materials when these times arrive. Our go-to restaurants, go-to songs, etc. For me, one of these things is the fat distorted riffs and rhythm section groove of Fuzz Rock.

Not much else i want to say now – don’t want to add to much to the procrastination discussion. So here it is. The latest installment of the Full On Fuzz Rock Special. Don’t forget to tune in every Thursday from 8-10 PM (EST) on SCAD-Atlanta Radio (www.scadatlantaradio.org).

OK – so who says Fuzz Rock is a downer? Only someone with a mere sliver of an idea about it would say nonsense like that. This song by Moon Duo and hilarious video starring King Khan will infinitely prove otherwise.

You’ll hear a song from Moon Duo on the latest installment of the Full On Fuzz Rock Special, Thursday on the Fuzz Factory. Tune in from 8-10 PM (EST) on SCAD-Atlanta Radio (www.scadatlantaradio.org).
