3/27/14: Alice In Chains

alice_in_chains

This past week was the first of the Spring Quarter. Around here that means it’s time to lock it down and kick it into overdrive. In other words, work hard, stay busy, hold on and don’t let go. Ten more weeks until daylight. They say life gives you as much as you can handle. I’m not sure if this is true. Some days I believe it, other days I want to punch that sentiment to the ground. The truth is – sometimes life itself is more like a test than a gift. Some days are better than others, that’s for sure. It’s times like these when you sharpen your blades in order to cut through, move forward and move beyond. Nothing dull about it. Survive and advance. Tenacity rules.

Many times in recent memory, the stress of life made me determine it was an Alice In Chains kind of night in the soundtrack of my life. This band continues to make beautifully dark music years after the death and departure of two original members. Choosing what songs to play proved difficult. I went with a song each from their first three full length releases and a single found on a best of collection. I also was happy to expand this into a Compare/Contrast by playing other Alice In Chains related groups like Mad Season and songs from Jerry Cantrell.

Lots of great new music played tonight as well. If you what you see/hear, keep listening while you tell every rock & roll fan you know. Thanks.
