9/30/10: Mark Lanegan

Once again, a little late on the playlist post.  All I will say is that when the school year hits, it hits hard!  I am sure we can all agree upon that.

This week – the special feature* was the greatest vocalist in the world, Mark Lanegan.  Many of you may be familiar with his smoky baritone from his days with the Screaming Trees. Others may be more familiar with his stellar solo career. Other still may even know Lanegan from his many guest vocal appearances with other acts, such as the Twilight Singers and Queens of the Stone Age.  This weeks show touches on all aspects of his career, including his most current collaboration with Isobel Campbell.

Lanegan was once the delinquent quarterback of his high school football team.  Just thought that was interesting.

Hope you enjoyed the show.

9/9/10: The Charlatans

This week the Fuzz Factory returned after a one week break.  In that time, I saw a concert by a band that has been making music for 20 years.  This band was the Charlatans.  The Kings of the Manchester sound.  Think Stone Roses, but better and a LOT more music and staying power.

My friend and I decided that very night to check the concert out. They played just around the corner from the SCAD Atlanta Radio studio. It was a fantastic spontaneous concert moment.  It turns out that the Atlanta show was the opening night of the American tour.  It was a warm up tour for a larger European tour.

Therefore, it is quite appropriate to have the Charlatans as the special feature* for the Fuzz Factory that week.

Tune in every Thursday night from 8-10 PM (EST) for the Fuzz Factory. Maximum rock & roll!

8/26/10: Fu Manchu

The show got off to a late start this week.  Must have been an accident, on I75-85, because the connector was all backed up.  Therefore, I had to jump around using primarily Piedmont Rd. and West Peachtree St. to get to the studio.  Good thing I was thinking about tonight’s feature or else I may never made it to the airwaves. “King of the road sez you move too slow!”

Yes – it’s true. Tonight’s special feature* on the Fuzz Factory was fuzz rock band extraordinaire, Fu Manchu.  Yes – one of the best at what they do.  Their riffs are not the toughest to play, but have you ever heard that fuzz in you face any better way?  If there was ever a band that proves it’s not what you play, but how you play it, it’s Fu Manchu.  The second hour is all Super Fuzzmatic Deluxe!  A hefty set of Fu Manchu in honor of their visit to Atlanta next week.

One reminder – there will be no show next week.  No Fuzz Factory on 9/2/10.  Regular scheduling resumes the following week. Thursdays from 8-10pm (EST).

Here’s the playlist.

8/12/10: Greg Dulli

Last week I was just in town for a little more than 24 hours, however 2.5 of that limited time was spent playing music for you in the Fuzz Factory.  Why, because I love rock and roll!

When out of town, I visited my hometown of Chicago, spent time in rural Michigan, passed through Detroit and spent the night in Cincinnati visiting old friends.  While in Cincinnati, I decided on the weekly feature*.  Greg Dulli was my choice, the man most associated with Cincinnati and alternative rock & roll.  Greg Dulli is the man behind some great bands, most notably the Afghan Whigs.  He also has partnered with Mark Lanegan as the Gutter Twins and also fronts the current band the Twilight Singers.  All of his bands examine and explore of the dark side of love and loss.  A worthwhile subject indeed.

Here is your playlist.
